CS-Cart Product Configurator Add-on

Nowadays due to improvement of the technological opportunities to handle customization efforts the demand from customers for individually specified products is constantly increasing. That's why Product Configurator has become quite a required software.

CS-Cart shopping cart tending to require all modern needs of users provides them with Product Configurator Add-on, a tool allowing to set up configurable products in your webstore and to simplify the sale of such complex products like personal computers, for example.

CS-Cart Product Configurator Add-on improves your webstore's functionality in case you have configurable products to sell allowing to create a product composed by a number of pre-developed components.

Part 1.

In order to start using CS-Cart Product Configurator Add-on, first of all, you have to enable it. You can do it by following the instructions below:

  • Sign in your administration panel;
  • Go to the Administration tab;
  • Add-ons link;
  • Find the Product configurator add-on in the list;
  • Change its status from Disabled to Active in the select box on the right – this will enable add-on.

Part 2.

How to create a configurable product

Here is an example of creating a configurable product. We will create a Wedding dress for a girl, which a user will be able to assort from several components, say, dress, shoes, rings.

2.1.

  • Go to the Catalog tab;
  • Follow the Configurator link;
  • Go to the Steps tab;
  • Clicking on the Add step button on the right will open a New step window;
  • Create steps, for example: step 1 - Jewelery, step 2 - Dress, Step 3 - Shoes;


  • Fill in the necessary fields in the General tab:
  • Click on the Create button.

2.2.

  • Go to the Product groups tab on the same page;
  • Create groups of products;
  • Attach them to the created steps;
  • Clicking on the Add button on the right will open the New group window;

2.2.1.

  • Fill in the following fields of the General tab:
  • Name – type the name of the group, for example, Wedding Dress;
  • Images - upload an image of the group if it is needed;
  • Full description - type the group description;
  • Step - assign one of the created steps to the group, for example Dress;
  • Display type - choose one of the following display types:
    • select box,
    • radio group,
    • check box.
  • Status – tick the necessary status: Active or Disabled.

2.2.2.

  • Go to the Products tab on the page;
  • Clicking on the Add products link will open Add product window;
  • In order to add the necessary products, tick the box opposite to the necessary product;
  • Click on the Add products and close button.
  • In case you want to add the whole category of products, choose this category in the Search in category select box and click on the Search button. The list of the products of this category will appear.
  • Choose 100 in the Items per page option (click on the number link near the Total items option and select 100 in the small section appeared) and select the left top check box next to Product name (all products will be selected). After that click on the Add products and close button. All products of the category will be added to your product group.


  • Click on the Create button.
  • Create as many groups, as necessary.
  • 2.3.

    • Go to the Compatibility classes tab on the Configurator page.
    • Create classes of products and assign them to the groups;
    • Clicking on the Add product class button on the right will open the window;

    2.3.1.

    • Fill in the following fields of the General tab on this page:
      • Name – type the name of the class (example: Classic dresses, Elegant dresses, etc.)
      • Group – assign class to some group it's a required condition).
      • Compatible classes - tick the boxes of the classes you want to be compatible with the class you are editing.
      • For example, wedding dress “Classic” is available for purchase only with the ring “Classic” and shoes “Classic”. The other variants will be disabled in the customer's area.
      • Notice that if you tick the boxes on the Editing class page of the first step, the customer will be able to start choosing either from step 1 or from step 3.
      • Specify the compatible classes for each of your three steps.
    • Status - choose the desired status.

    2.3.2.

    • Open the Products tab on the page.
    • Click on the Add products link, select the desired products in the opened window and click on the Add products and close button.
    • Click on the Save button.

    Part 3.

    In order to make a product configurable:

    • Go to the Catalog tab;
    • Follow the Products link;
    • Open the details page of the necessary product (click on the product name link or Edit button).
    • Go to the Add-ons tab on the product details page;
    • Tick the check-box opposite to the Configurable option – this will enable it;


    • Click on the Save button;
    • Open the appeared Configuration tab;
    • Click on the Add product group button;
    • In the opened window choose the groups you've just created in Product configurator add-on in the drop-down list (Wedding dress, Wedding shoes, Wedding rings, for example);
    • Click on the Add button;
    • Repeat as many times as needed;
    • In the Product groups section tick the Required check box for groups which will be required;
    • Choose which products will be selected by default in the Default configuration products select box.
    • Click on the Save button.
